ANCIENT CHRISTIAN COMMENTARY ON SCRIPTURE CD-ROM, VOLUME 1 (PC VERSION)
The Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture from InterVarsity Press does what very few of today’s students of the Bible could do for themselves. With the aid of computer technology, the vast array of writings from the church fathers—including much that is available only in the ancient languages—have been combed for their comment on Scripture. From these results, scholars with a deep knowledge of the fathers and a heart for the church have hand selected material for each volume, shaping, annotating and introducing it to today’s readers. Each portion of commentary has been chosen for its salient insight, its rhetorical power and its faithful representation of the consensual exegesis of the early church.
According to Thomas C. Oden and the other contributors to the Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture:
"We have chosen and ordered these selections primarily for a general lay reading audience of nonprofessionals who study the Bible regularly and who earnestly wish to have classic Christian observations on the text readily available to them. In vastly differing cultural settings, contemporary lay readers are asking how they might grasp the meaning of sacred texts under the instruction of the great minds of the ancient church."
"Yet in so focusing our attention, we are determined not to neglect the rigorous requirements and needs of academic readers who up to now have had starkly limited resources and compendia in the history of exegesis. The series, which is being translated into the languages of half the world’s population, is designed to serve public libraries, universities, crosscultural studies and historical interests worldwide. It unapologetically claims and asserts its due and rightful place as a staple source book for the history of Western literature."
System requirements: Windows 98 and beyond, Pentium II 350MHz (Pentium III 700MHz recommended), 64 MB RAM (128 MB recommended), CD-ROM drive, 800 x 600 display (1024 x 768 recommended), Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later.
"Thomas C. Oden recently retired as Henry Anson Buttz Professor of Theology at The Theological School of Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. He is general editor of the Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture and the author of numerous theological works, including a three-volume systematic theology."
Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture CD-ROM, Volume 1 offers the same functionality as many other commentaries within Libronix. The commentary can be linked with any Bible in the system (such as the King James Version which is included and unlocked with the Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture) so that when Romans 1:4 is in view in the Bible, the same passage is also in view in the commentary. If a new verse is scrolled to in the Bible, the commentary follows suit and scrolls to the new verse automatically.
