SPIRITUAL DIMENSION OF THE HOLY CANONS, THE

The canons have both a spiritual and pastoral dimension, striving for the salvation of souls. The author`s aim is to elucidate the fundamentals of the Canonical Tradition by raising the spirit of the law to the surface. The law is written not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts (2 Cor 3:3). Patsavos gives the theological basis, composition and characteristics of Church law. Pastoral issues of canonical tradition are elaborated, whilst an appendix lists which councils, synods etc. dealt with what issues.
