BEAUTY AND HESYCHIA IN ATHONITE LIFE MOUNT ATHOS SERIES &NDASH; BOOK 1
The first text of a wonderful and inspiring series entitlted, "Beauty and Hesychia in Athonite Life" is the text of a talk given in Thessaloniki, Greece at the colloquium "Mount Athos: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" organized by the Society of Macedonian Studies, in November, 1993.
Fr. Vasileios, Abbot of Iveron Monastery, does not write like an academic theologian but rather an authentic Athonite.
Excerpt from Page 10: "Far from the pathetic notion that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder," the Holy Mountain preserves, not the idea or definition of beauty, but the gift and experience of beauty. Far from the unchastity and dissipation of the MTV generation, "the Athonite way of life proves to be a theological initiation." On the Holy Mountain "one comes to live and believe that God is love and perplexing beauty, that the unveiling of His love is a revelation of beauty, and that His beauty is an offering, freely given from the bounty of His goodness"
