THE NEW TESTAMENT: AN ORTHODOX PERSPECTIVE - VOLUME 1
This is an introduction to basic questions of the New Testament. Fr. Stylianopoulos explores the Orthodox understanding of Scripture, its place in the life of the Church, the role of the Fathers in interpretation, and the place of scholarly and academic research. He then proposes three models or levels for scriptural interpretation, the exegetical, the interpretive, and the transformative.
"This the first comprehensive work on Scripture, tradition, and hermeneutics by an Orthodox biblical scholar is a masterpiece . . . It is the finely crafted product of a mature master who knows, loves, and respects his subject, the work of his fellow scholars, and the seeking and thinking believers for whom he writes." — Thomas Hopko, St. Vladimir`s Seminary
"Constructive scholarship, theological reflection, and spiritual and moral formation brings a valued contribution from the Orthodox tradition." — The Expository Times
