ON THE DORMITION OF MARY: EARLY PATRISTIC HOMILIES

The first translation into English of eleven homilies of ancient preachers and the earliest “official” retelling by an Orthodox Bishop of the narrative of the Dormition as well as the earliest attempts of theologians to interpret her “falling asleep” in the light of the Paschal Mystery. Shows the celebration of the Dormition as an icon “of Christian hope for the transfiguration of our common humanity.”
