SAINT GREGORY PALAMAS: TREATISE ON THE SPIRITUAL LIFE
This treatise is divided into chapters to facilitate reading. Sample chapters include: Spiritual Poverty, Enduring Afflictions, Blessed Mourning, Blessed Comfort, Love of Money, Gluttony, Vainglory, Life and Death of the Soul, Spiritual Ascent, etc.
This is the first time this text has been translated into any modern language. The actual title of the text, given by St. Nicodemos of the Holy Mountain, is, On Passions and Virtues and the Fruits of the Spiritual Ascent. It has been translated using two Greek texts: The Philokalia, The Tomos and the Patrologiae graeca (vol. 150). Key terms have been explained in order to better contextualize this work. The Septuagint (LXX), which Gregory used, was the basis for the translation of the Old Testament verses, yet the titles and numbering system are according to the more familiar King James Version.
