SAINT SERAPHIM: WONDERWORKER OF SAROV AND HIS SPIRITUAL INHERITANCE
The entire Orthodox world venerates the humble Russian monk, St. Seraphim of Sarov (1759–1833). First a meek and labor-loving monk, later an ascetic recluse, and finally a spiritual guide to thousands of the faithful in 19th-century Russia, St. Seraphim remains one of the most beloved saints in his own land, and is known universally as a miracle-worker and a glorious bearer of God`s grace.
This richly illustrated Life of St. Seraphim, compiled by the renowned spiritual writer and disciple of the Optina Elders, Helen Kontsevitch, includes the Saint’s astounding teaching on the acquisition of the Holy Spirit and concludes with an account of his canonization in 1903.
The life of St. Seraphim is inextricably connected with the creation of the Holy Trinity Convent of Diveyevo, under the spiritual direction of the Mother of God. Today Diveyevo, having been resurrected after decades of communist rule, serves as the home of St. Seraphim`s relics and as a center of grace and healing. As the accounts of the holy nuns and pilgrims here testify, St. Seraphim continues his work at Diveyevo even now, bringing joy to countless souls through his intercession before the throne of God.
